Gray paper-covered boards quarter-bound in blue cloth titles stamped in silver on backstrip. An equally small printing of the stated second printing was published just eight months later in June of 1971. The first printing of this title was published October 1970 in a tiny quantity. Rare, original DJ with paragraphs of text printed on the front of the DJ the back of DJ is a full-panel head shot of a young Toni Morrison rocking an afro. Overall, a beautiful, highly collectible volume a cornerstone book for a 20th century literature collection and for the Toni Morrison fan! Protected in a mylar sleeve and will ship in a sturdy box. Not price clipped ($5.95 intact) and not ex-library. Housed in a clean and bright very good dust jacket that shows minor rubbing and chipping to the spine ends and edges with a very small loss of material at the spine head, a 1.25'x1.25' closed tear to the back panel that has some unobtrusive tape repair done to the inside of the jacket, and a light overall age-toning.

This copy is in Near Fine condition with a square, tight binding, bright silver lettering over blue and gray boards with only a hint of fading, and clean white pages free of any markings the book does show some light sunning to the board edges, some mild shelf wear to the spine foot, and some very light spotting to the lower exterior text block. this book very scarce to find in collectible condition, particularly signed. An outstanding copy of this novel by the Pulitzer and Nobel Prize winning author of 'Beloved', 'Song of Solomon', etc. SIGNED by the author on a bookplate affixed to the half title page. Stated First Edition with no mention of subsequent printings (First Printing), in the first issue dust jacket with the1070 code on the bottom of the front flap A Near Fine book in a Very Good dust jacket. The entire assemblage is altogether near fine.

Program is 4 pages including covers, measures 8.5 x 11' and is printed in purple on off-white paper with an orchid design on front by Sylvia Roth. The evening included performances and tributes by Harry Belafonte, Rosanne Cash, Peter Yarrow, Ruby Dee, Gordon Parks, et al, as well as Morrison reading selections from her works. John Cathedral which was filled with thousands of orchids for the evening (Kathy Willems iconic AP photo of Morrison holding an orchid was taken during the event). Housed in custom clamshell case with Nobel-citation quote on front TOGETHER WITH an INVITATION SIGNED BY MORRISON to a private reception in honor of her having been awarded the Nobel Prize (5.5 x 4.25' embossed heavy white cardstock printed on recto only original, plain envelope included) AND PROGRAM SIGNED BY MORRISON for the corresponding event, 'An Evening with Toni Morrison & Her Friends' held Tuesday, April 5, 1994, in New York's St. Near fine in near fine dust jacket with professional repair to two small tears.
